This review of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy covers key concepts including development of the approach, SFBT Questions, and limitations of SFBT.
This introductory course on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy presents an overview of key concepts, including background information on the development of SFBT, and SFBT questions, including the “miracle question” with corresponding practice activities, and some limitations of solution-focused brief therapy.
The first module of this course provides both an introductory video to the course as a whole, as well as an introduction to solution-focused brief therapy, including background information on the work of de Shazer and Berg and factors influencing the development of the solution-focused approach to therapy.
In the second module, four types of SFBT questions will be explored as foundational techniques underlying the therapeutic process from a solution-focused perspective. Readings in this module will be supplemented with video resources and practice activities for each type of question.
The third module presents limitations and criticisms of solution-focused brief therapy, particularly with respect to the role and influence of the counsellor and the surface-level analysis of client concerns. Finally, the course concludes with three (3) quiz questions to review what you have learned.
